Scaling & Polishing is one of the most common procedures in a dental practice.
The regular removal of hardened salivary deposits, known as tartar or calculus, plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy gums. During a scaling procedure, we use specialised instruments to carefully remove plaque and tartar buildup from above and below the gum line. This helps prevent gum inflammation, bleeding, and the progression of gum disease. Following scaling, we perform polishing to smooth the surfaces of your teeth. This step not only removes surface stains from coffee, tea, or smoking but also makes it more difficult for plaque to accumulate in the future.
By scheduling routine scaling and polishing appointments, you can significantly reduce your risk of gum disease and maintain a cleaner, brighter smile.
